The Williamsport-Lycoming Community Foundation is the
founding affiliate of the First Community Foundation of
Pennsylvania. As an affiliate, the Williamsport-Lycoming
Community Foundation continues its longstanding service
to donors and nonprofit organizations in Lycoming
County.
Local bankers Albert F. Young, James B. Krause, James B.
Graham, and Edward L. Taylor were inspired to form the
Williamsport Foundation, also known as the Community
Trust, after learning of the model foundation
established in Cleveland, Ohio by F. H. Goff in 1914.
The Foundation made its first grants to the community
during the Great Depression. Since then, the
organization has granted approximately $40 million to
charitable causes in the community.
