History

The Danville Area Community Foundation (DACF) was the inspiration of dedicated community leaders such as Dr. George W. Leighow and former Geisinger CEO Henry Hood, who had the foresight to see the benefits of a community endowment. They believed that the generosity and determination of the people of Montour County ensured success for a community foundation. On December 12th, 1999, the creation of the DACF became official at a celebration held at Danville’s Pine Barn Inn.

In 1999, our young organization became affiliated with the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. The FCFP took on administrative and management tasks, allowing our board to concentrate on fundraising. Our assets have grown to more than $3.5 million within 51 separate funds. Additionally, we have received more than $2 million in planned gifts. We have proudly provided nearly $400,000 in scholarships and grant funding to charitable organizations in Montour County since 1999- and that is just the beginning.
